These are great charcoal pencils, especially for those of us who have used old charcoal pencils. These PANDAFLY charcoal pencils are much better and cleaner to use. No more dusty carbon fingers. None of these pencils scratch the paper, only the dry feeling that comes from drawing with charcoal pencils. Different hardnesses produced different textures and I used them on different papers, the roughest of which was cold pressed watercolor paper which I liked these pens best on. For the price, this set is hard to beat. If you are new to sketching and drawing with charcoal you can experiment with different hardnesses and I have found that they sharpen very well with an electric sharpener although you do need to be careful with the tips. Overall I am very happy with this set.
