We had to replace the screen door and the pet door installed in it. It's hard to find a screen door pet door that fits a large dog. Our big guy weighs about 95 pounds and has the grace of a sleepy cow. Installing the screen was easy. It snaps into place and is secured with screws. It only lasted a few minutes. As part of the replacement, we used a screen door with a much heavier frame. The hinges on the previous dog door failed fairly quickly and the only thing holding it together was the screen itself. This screen used anchor points, which seems a lot better at the moment. The actual door can be removed. It fits well so it will take some effort. So far none of our dogs have damaged the door and pulled out after a few months of use. I was under the impression that a dog door would withstand a dog breaking in better than a screen door. Sometimes they slam the screen door out of the way. The door is heavier than what they are used to, so it took them a few extra tries to open it. However, less than an hour had passed and it was all professionals, coming and going. Advice. We had an issue with dogs trying to fly out of the dog door. The dog door itself was able to withstand the violence, but the screen door derailed too much and there was a chance they would remove the door entirely. We placed a large fridge on the deck about 2 feet from the door so they could see through the dog door. This slowed them down because they had to overcome obstacles to get in or out.
