It seemed like every time I turned around, especially on a small stage, I would bang my shoulder on the damn windscreens that came with my trusty SM57s , and they would land in a puddle of beer on the floor or have fun in the wind across the stage. They attach to the microphone without (as far as I can tell) dampening or altering the sound. I set up sound for the Dixieland festival, which used my mics and board for six or seven shows a day, and I didn't lose a single windshield. I lost three last year. They cost a few dollars, but not much more than a standard windshield, especially since you're constantly losing trim.
