The quality of an MP3 file is shockingly high. There is a sizable margin for volume. The range is adequate (up to 10 m through two concrete walls) but not without drawbacks. The noise of the outside world is always present in the subway. There are some spots where a lot of wires have accumulated ("the shrimp" in Kupchino, St. Petersburg; nobody knows), therefore the audio is continuously cut off. I didn't find it particularly enjoyable for late-night film viewing (albeit I haven't experimented much with the equalizer settings).
