Ever since my last 5:4 monitor broke, I've wanted to buy another one, but the monitor manufacturers don't make them anymore. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if ViewSonic discontinued this monitor any time soon. I bought this over a cheaper ViewSonic monitor because it has an adjustable stand and sits lower on the desk than most monitors, which I prefer. My last 5 by 4 aspect ratio monitor had a fluorescent backlight, which is less eye straining than an LED backlight. However, monitors with fluorescent backlights are no longer manufactured. Unfortunately, the LED backlight is very harmful to the eyes, so the monitor must have eye protection features. This one does and they work well. It uses flicker-free technology and filters out blue light. Before I bought this monitor I bought one from Asus which didn't have eye protection features and I could barely look at it. The picture is not perfect. Old monitors with tn panels were always darker at the bottom. It uses IPS technology. I was hoping it would be uniformly colored across all parts of the screen. Almost, but not quite. It's a bit brighter on the right side of the screen and the bottom left quadrant of the screen is a bit darker than the rest. However, I quickly got used to these flaws and don't notice them anymore. (Color anomalies are very slight and may not be noticeable to everyone.) The image is very clear and the colors are well saturated. I had to lower the brightness and contrast to make the image less bright. So I think it's a good monitor. If you need a monitor with a 5:4 aspect ratio, this is probably the best you can do.
