I love the hat! The edges are flexible but not flimsy. Sun protection is given both because of the sun protection factor and because of the width of the hat itself. The only thing that bothers me is that it's a bit tight on the head when opening it. I don't blame the hat for this as everyone's head is a different size and shape, but if you have a large head be aware that if you like a looser hat it 'might' not fit you. The reason I mention this is because you have an adjustable chin strap/cord (whatever it's called) that should hold the hat on your head if it were looser. Great hat!
