Doesn't work with soft drinks

I bought this when I forget to put small 80oz cans of Izze in the fridge. Unfortunately, they don't work like ice cubes. They don't chill the drink at all. I know they're made for bourbon, scotch, whiskey, etc., but I don't drink and can't tell if they're safe to drink. They are absolutely useless for carbonated drinks, water and other soft drinks.
