This lighter from UST is a beast. The rod itself is about as thick and strong as fireproof steel. This increases its lifespan by giving you more fire. The cool aspect and philosophy of Blastmatch is that you can control it with one hand. This feature allows you to use your hand if needed to block the wind when lighting a fire. Simply press down on the firing pin with your thumb and press firmly on the spring steel to produce very hot sparks. Make it to the size of the pole, this thing GIVES SPARKS. The bar also rotates 360 degrees so it wears evenly and doesn't wear down one side of the bar over time. They were actually designed for Air Force fighter pilots, so I believe they've been extensively tested. The shroud can also be pivoted over the top of the flame retardant steel, allowing it to be stowed away in a compact 4″ format. A great little piece of gear for any camper or someone packing an emergency kit. However, always make sure you have fire sidings. The Blastmatch has mechanical parts, making it prone to potential failures over time. But I haven't encountered this problem yet and haven't heard anything about it. But don't risk it. I would highly recommend this fire starter to the competition.
