These pads are as specified by the manufacturer. A hard case is just what you need to protect your knee on concrete, wood and roofs. The padding behind the shell is enough to cushion movement without being soft. The straps are easy to attach, wide enough to prevent twisting and easily adjustable to stay in place while being comfortable enough for the knee. I wish I had thought of a lighter color as black heats up on the roof and other sun exposed areas. I am a homeowner who does most of the home maintenance, improvement and renovation. I'm not a contractor, just an active handyman. I buy tools for life; I think it will be (of course I'm 57 already).
