Excellent holding power - make sure you know what to expect and prepare things properly

So far (about two months) in mixed weather from about 65 degrees to 100 plus, rain, sun and all in between This glue holds the plastic door knob on my wife's Kia. It was designed at the factory to frictionally fit a knurled pin that "bulges out" from the doorknob assembly, but the thin, brittle plastic cracked around the barrel designed to hold the pin. Before beginning the exercise, I wiped down all surfaces with denatured alcohol. I first glued a pivot gasket to the painted metal door (more to prevent rubbing/squeaks than gasket; slippery but hard polyethylene feel). I then glued a chrome plated, electroplated sheet of plastic (perhaps hard, brittle polystyrene) to the "gasket" and glued the assembly overnight while the glue cured. The next day the feeling of elasticity in the surface bond was gone and the plastic was snug against the metal - very tight - with no twisting or movement. It seemed incredibly strong and, as I wrote, still incredibly hard after two months. NOTE: I didn't realize (inadequate research) that 8061 acts as a contact adhesive, so you'll need to precoat both contact surfaces and glue them together. , disconnect them, wait, and then connect them together. This is evident from the manufacturer's instructions (which I didn't read prior to purchase). It wasn't a problem for me, just make sure you follow the appropriate steps. I also didn't know that the glue is thin, almost watery. It will work and is difficult to control if you intend to "combine" it. Except when applied very thinly, it seems to retain some tack for a long time, maybe forever. Regardless, it has excellent holding power, and given the size of the contact area for my application, I'm still impressed. 3M - They can be expensive, but my experience is that extra money is rarely abused.
