Review on 🚲 SKS-Germany Alley Cat Matte Black B53 Full Coverage Fender Set for 700 x 38-47 Bicycles by Justin Albright

Excellent protection but generally poor fit

I bought these fenders for winter riding and found the best price and fastest delivery here. They provide good coverage when driving on snowy and wet roads. I run 700 x 40c Maxxis Refuse tires and have opted for 47mm fenders so there is room for 650 bx 47 or even 650 bx 50 tires in the future. They are made of plastic and are very flexible, which will help and annoy you at different times. Unlike others, it didn't take too long to install, but it did take some creativity to get it working. First, the included front fender accessory just didn't work: the top long screw for the fork just wasn't enough and we had to look for a replacement as we had a Phillips screw at home of the same caliber (pictured), but a bit longer ; For the bottom two brackets, the supplied screws were too thick, so I used zip ties instead (pictured) until I had a chance to visit a hardware store. Second, the rear fender was easier to install as my bike already had the correct bolts, but the problem with this is the nuts that attach the steel braces to the fender itself. These nuts are not secure (pictured), they don't have a nylon insert to hold them in place to allow them to come loose like happened to me. I've had to tighten them regularly, I drive 20km/day and have to check every other day and even then one of them has already come loose and I've lost it. I don't want to buy a whole set of new parts that sell for $13! For the price of these wings, they should come with decent features. At the moment these issues are preventing me from fully enjoying the gliders but once I find the right fitment they should be fine for the rest of the season. Buy if you need full coverage, but note that you may need to visit your local hardware store if the included hardware doesn't fit your bike. UPDATE: I went to my local hardware store and got a box of 15. 6mm-1.00 hex nuts and a small container of Permatex Blue medium-strength threadlock ($12 total) to better secure the fenders. The hex nut fits, albeit not as perfectly as the supplied nuts which have a slightly different profile, but hopefully the thread lock will hold it in place and prevent it from loosening again. I also applied thread lock to all of the other 7 original bolt nuts. I highly recommend applying thread lock to the fenders to keep the nuts from falling off while riding.
