I bought this particular holder not only for the looks but also for the license plate backing they offer. On my car, the license plate is only attached at the top and lies directly on the paintwork at the bottom. The pad provides a good cushion to prevent the ink from rubbing off the plate. Various mounting hardware is also a great bonus! strong enough to hold the license plate straight without having to bend the holder slightly, but the hat has more to do with how the NYS stamps their license plates than with the holder itself.
