I bought this for my mum because she loves looking at nature. She asked for one for Mother's Day and after thinking about the price a bit I relented and bought an AMSCope Kids entry-level microscope. To be honest I'm not too happy with this purchase (and I'm not hard to please). The microscope is a bit flimsy and many consumables feel cheap. However the product was made for a child and I think it would be a good set for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over the age of 11. The case is a nice touch. I suppose for a kid the case will make them feel like much more "official" scientists. The kit contains everything what a young scientist needs to have fun. I had the exact same thing when I was younger and he absolutely blew my mind. The microscope itself is pretty easy to use once you figure out how to adjust the knobs. There's definitely a learning curve in this area, but give it some time and you'll get the hang of it. The zoom is perfect for what it was bought for (viewing leaves, insects, etc.).
