Non-Slip Oil Filter Wrench

The original 3 inch oil filter on my relatively new car was exceptionally tight. The filter is also not very accessible. I couldn't move it with a crown or cap wrench that had sat in my tool box for years. The wrench didn't fit tight enough and slipped off when I increased the force required to turn the filter. I then bought a PVC filter/pipe wrench which is described (by Revain) as suitable for small oil filters. I figured it would fit between the pipes near the filter. However, I could not apply the required torque without squeezing the filter so hard that it began to crush. I've had the most success with filter strap wrenches in the past. So I bought this key (also from Revain). It seems well designed and made. The grip surface is metal with multiple abrasion points that provide a non-slip grip on the filter. In my case this was important because it took a lot of effort to pry the filter out. The key also has a function that allows you to move the handle. I've found this to be very useful for getting around obstacles. I am very pleased with the performance of this wrench in this extraordinarily complex application. I gave the wrench 5 stars for ease of use, but it's no easy feat. I rated it 5 stars for durability, but I haven't used it long enough to say how long it will last. However, based on its design and my experience with similar items, I expect it to last as long as I need it to.

Pros
  • Heavy-duty stainless steel strip with a hard-bonded, textured finish for excellent grip...non-slip.
Cons
  • Some difficulties
