I got them to make flagpoles for my motorcycle. Box stores sell 8mm round entry markers. They are strong enough to carry small flags like Rt 66, Patriot Guard or USA. I shortened them to about 2.5ft as the 4ft length hits too hard and may not fly out of the garage. These are quality clamps with quality rubber. 7mm is about 1/4 inch so they fit well and won't fly out with the wind although I insure them. 8mm is approximately 0.31" (5/16") and the clamp is "stretched" enough to function properly. The quality is superb, there are no sharp edges and the rubber looks pretty good out of vinyl or similar. Longevity but I don't expect any problems. Planned upgrade is to put stainless steel tubing in the clamps and make the bars detachable with cotter pins and for that I can remove the rubber sheeting. I removed one and the clamp is good metal, no need buff marks on what I tested. Overall a good product at a great price.
