Great features are useless with moving paper and poor instructions.

I really want to love this car. but all the wonderful qualities it should have are useless if you can't keep the paper on the mat and if you don't have precise instructions. I bought my DX just before Christmas. I've read everything I could find to use it properly, but Brother doesn't make it easy to find the right manual. The one I finally found and downloaded doesn't match all the options on the screen, so I often fail to follow the instructions and end up in an "OK", "Edit", "Back" loop. I just want to scan and crop pictures! What bothers me the most is the stickiness of the mat. The very first 65lb piece of cardboard I put on it stuck like glue and had to be peeled off in layers - I still have remnants of that fiasco stuck to the mat. I had a 'correct' scan and cut and since then all the other papers have peeled off and moved once the car drove over it. I disassembled it, I kept it level, I did everything according to the instructions. But although I've used the mat < 6 times, the stick is unusable. I don't expect to have to buy double sided tape and "fix" a brand new carpet! The attached image shows the cut quality of some of my stickers (on cardstock). I lose about half of my jewelry every time due to programming issues or because the carriage got stuck on a sticker. I found it interesting that EVERY rug they used in the HSN Crafts Day demos today was prepared behind the scenes. The demonstrator did not place the paper on the mat, she simply took the mat with the paper/material already taped to it. I have to believe they used other means to ensure they adhered because some were actually sealed on all four sides with what looked like duct tape ๐Ÿ˜ณ. I guess they don't trust the stick either ๐Ÿคจ I'm totally committed to making this work because I can't afford a $300 mistake (I've started gluing my paper). I'm mad at Brother for ignoring the carpet issues and I'm hoping the bad reviews will hurt their sales - maybe it'll get their attention.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
