Review on ☕ Bonavita 5-Cup Stainless Steel Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer with One-Touch Function by Mike Steeg

Not perfect, just great.

Some of the bad reviews almost made me give up this brewer. I'm still glad I decided to buy it. I have experience with coffee and brewing methods. I've been drinking specialty coffee for many years, I have all the necessary equipment, I roasted the beans myself and so on. I have pour overs, vacuum brewers and french presses. My preferred brewing method has always been the French Press. But I've always been a little jealous of my son-in-law's techno mold, which makes great coffee. I finally decided to break down and buy Technivorm, but when I checked the price I found it had gone up almost $100. So I came across this device and bought it. Here is my assessment: The quality of the coffee is excellent, in my opinion it is in no way inferior to Technoform. One of the criticisms is that this brewery is not SCAA sanctioned and this bothered me as I was concerned that the brewing temperature would not be enough. Not so. This brewer goes up to 200 degrees. F. Great cup of coffee. The advantage of this coffee maker for me is that I can prepare a small cup without sacrificing the quality of the coffee. I can make 12 ounce, 18 ounce, or 24 ounce pots and they are all great. Often I only want one cup, and because I can make a great 12-ounce pot, I don't waste beans. One complaint I read was that putting the brewer in a dedicated pre-brew mode is confusing. I found this statement wrong. When the machine is off, press and hold the switch for five seconds. Now you're in a special mode (which I hardly ever used) and stay in it until you exit the mode (another five-second press) or until you disconnect the machine from the network. There is nothing easier. In fact, the overall operation of the machine is easy, which is an advantage. Another complaint was the poor quality. For me, this device is qualitatively no better and no worse than Technoform. Yes, it's light and has a lot of plastic in it. Like Technoform. This is a beautiful machine that won't embarrass you with a countertop. Another complaint concerned the pouring of the carafe. I think this complaint is fair. The carafe is difficult to empty completely and can only be dosed well with the lid on. My solution is to use the top when I water. Installation takes five seconds or less (it's single threaded). The last complaint is that there is no heating plate and the carafe dies without keeping the coffee warm long enough. Well no and yes. No, coffee should never be kept warm on the stovetop as it produces bitterness very quickly - don't do this, but heat if necessary. Yes, the carafe loses some heat as it has a large surface. It keeps the coffee hot enough for me, but I'd say an hour is enough. In summary, this coffee maker makes excellent coffee. The brewer is not perfect. It's just great. If there's a better brewed coffee for a hundred bucks, I don't know what it is.
