I just received this radio yesterday after a long wait of over one (1) month. Still, I like this little radio a lot. At first I was a bit confused because I charged it at night and it didn't work in the morning. I turned on the radio but heard nothing. I thought it was defective and wanted to ask for a refund. But then I noticed the battery compartment and decided to try it out with three (3) AAA batteries installed. Then it worked. So I wanted to send it back anyway as I already have a lot of battery powered radios. However, you must understand that there is a switch on the bottom of this radio to switch it from AAA battery operation to lithium-based. ion battery. Came preinstalled on a AAA battery, don't know why. So the thing works great with both power supplies. This is great because I can use AAA battery power while the internal power supply is charging. It can also run on solar power, but the instructions are pretty clear that solar power is only there to keep the lithium-ion battery from draining faster. . Solar energy will most likely not be enough to power or fully charge the battery. That's why it has a manual crank to charge the radio manually.
