Can't tell how it works. Returned without trying. I returned it for security reasons. The blade guard is your only defense if something happens to the blade (blade breaks!). The protective cover of this saw is made of lightweight plastic. If something happens to a steel blade spinning at over 5000 rpm, the only thing that will save the user's life or limbs. or anyone else nearby while the saw is running is the saw guard (called the guard for some reason) and that guard is made of lightweight plastic. This "guardian" is more of a cosmetic item than a functional protection. I get a saw with a strong metal guard.
