Review on Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 Desktop Memory - 1600 MHz, PC3 12800, 2x8GB by Marfel Fekete

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great storage for the price.

I just doubled the amount of memory on my system, well below the cost of the 8GB they replaced - and I bought it three years ago. So far so good. I can open programs until my WIN7 taskbar fills up with things like Photoshop, Word, a browser or two, media player, email, Skype, etc. And the memory usage is just 6 GB. The same applies to a resource-intensive game. worth your money. Don't believe any review that says these modules can't be tuned to 1600MHz. The default frequency is 1333 but can easily be changed in the BIOS. An increase in frequency often requires a simultaneous increase in DRAM voltage. So if instability occurs after increasing MHz, increase V gradually. Most motherboards that have been released in recent years have an XMP setting or automatic overclocking. I put these modules in, started the computer and the system counts the frequency as 1333. I went into the BIOS. On the Gigabyte board, the automatic frequency profile settings are called DRAM EOCP. I chose this one and it asked me what frequency profile I need. I chose 1600. He told me that the current voltage is not optimal. So I went for the DRAM voltage optimization option. It automatically adjusted the voltage and said the DRAM is now optimized. I booted into Windows, ran CPU-Z and saw each module as 800MHz (which, being two channels, means 1600). A fait accompli. If your DRAM cannot be tuned to a specific frequency, it means either a faulty module, an outdated/faulty memory controller (CPU or onboard), an outdated BIOS, or just plain user error/incompetence. But this item is valued absolutely as advertised.

Pros
  • Speed: 1600MHz. Compatibility - Intel and AMD platforms
Cons
  • Slightly torn
