Almost as good as a backup camera

We built a Class B RV on the back of a Chevy Express van and it was always difficult to reverse because you were bad sees what's right behind you. The rear door windows don't offer much visibility. On the recommendation of another, I decided to try the Fresnel lens. I attached this 8x10 Fresnel lens to the bottom inside corner of the driver's side liftgate window. It goes in the window, not out. Installation was easy. Simply clean the glass and then spray with water to keep it evenly wet. Then press the Fresnel lens against the glass while unfolding to minimize air bubbles under the lens. You can then remove any remaining air bubbles by pushing them towards the outer edges of the lens. I have wires from the rear window defroster and I've put a Fresnel lens on it with no problems. However, I have no plans to use the defroster with the lens in place. We have just returned from a 3 week trip and I have to say I absolutely love this Fresnel lens and will never be traveling without it in the future. This gives me a very clear wide angle view of what's behind my van and gives me a lot more confidence when backing up. Now I can see when I'm approaching the car behind me in the parking lot and I no longer have to send my wife to escort me out. I've thought about installing a backup camera, but this lens is almost as good and doesn't require the expense or hassle. Note that it fell out the window after my van was put into storage for the winter. I just wet the window again and put the Fresnel lens back on and I'm ready for next season.
