Review on Kaiyopop Aquarium Rechargeable Battery Accessories by Jason Jirsa

Pump runs on power to battery (with photo)

I have several tanks and they all have air filters. In the event of a power outage, I'm gradually converting some of my air-powered filters to lithium battery-powered pumps (I live in an old area and sometimes we lose power and I'd rather not have to worry about my fish if there's an extended power outage ). So when I was offered this Kaiyopop Mini Aquarium Fish Tank Air Pump for a 1 to 20 gallon aquarium, I had room for it in my new 4.12 gallon aquarium. At the time of review, this pump costs $14.99 (with coupon). The pump comes in branded packaging. Mine is red and a good size - very portable for those using it for outdoor purposes with a flight. It comes with a USB cable, air duct, check valve and instructions. The pump itself is partially charged, so I charged it before use. There is a clip on the bottom for hanging if needed and four presumably silicone or rubber feet to muffle noise. I used my own airline for my application and my own air stone (awaiting delivery of a small sponge filter). After charging and setting it up correctly, I turned on the pump. There are two reasons I gave this pump 4 stars. For a small pump and such it's quite loud (meaning it can't go unnoticed), although the noise seems to have died down a bit since it's been plugged in - or I'm just used to it - I can't exactly say which is you only aware The second reason I gave it a 4 is that the battery life indicators are SUPER bright - great for outdoor use but not so good near the aquarium at night (IMO). I ended up sticking a piece of tape on it. Other than that, the pump works fine for my 4 gallon, it's not too much even at full power (thought I put my own flow control valve in and scaled it down a bit). I checked the battery several times and disconnected it from the mains - the air continued to flow without hesitation. There is also an intermittent air option which I think is more commonly used for pneumatic ornaments or fishermen that extend battery life with fish caught. Overall this is a good little pump and even with the two potential downsides mentioned they aren't enough to put me off using it - it will stick with this tank.

Pros
  • Fish and aquatic animals
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
