Assembly is a pain, but it is as pictured

I got the box intact and early! I was super excited and happy to put it together. First thing I noticed laying out all the parts is that zero parts are labeled. There wasn't even an attempt and some look very similar to each other. So I started out by labeling all the parts with stickers myself. That took a good 15-20 minutes by carefully comparing the charts and everything. Then I started assembling. The Plastic black dowels are a nightmare to work with. Too soft a hammer doesn't work, too hard to push by hand, and a metal hammer flattens the teeth/edges on them if you try to really get them into the holes they are meant to be in. One plastic dowel was even defective (both sides should be the same)! I have added the photo, and there were no spares. Secondly, it's actually a bit wider than measured but isn't too big a problem for me. It's maybe 1-1.5 inches longer.Halfway through you are required to DRILL holes into one of the boards in order to screw on L shaped brackets. I skipped this step and it held together fine since the brackets are barely the size of the black plastic dowel and wouldn't be that supportive. All in all, after 8 hours of assembly I have come to the conclusion that this really is for an "Expert" to put together. Or someone who has all the tools for all the various parts. Softer hammers for the black plastic dowels and side boards, harder hammers for the tiny nails to nail on the back board, a drill bit to drill holes for the L bracket nails and/or electric screwdriver. And you need a LOT of strength to move it around. I'm a short not too muscular woman so I was hoping it would be simple and straightforward like some of my other furniture. It's not. It's probably the most advanced thing I've put together.I'd say as far as ease of putting together it's 1/5, and for final looks 4/5 so I'll give it a good 3 stars.

Pros
  • The black finish is easy to clean and maintain
Cons
  • May not be suitable for those who prefer a minimalist aesthetic
