Having gone through several pet gates over the years, I don't have high hopes. This goal is much stronger than I expected. With no hinges or screws holding it together (it's all wood with slip joints), I don't have to worry about the screws breaking out of the wood or the nuts falling to the floor. The sliding feature means I can open and close it by simply sliding, rather than loosening screws or lifting and moving it sideways. There are set screws that will keep the gate at a fixed width if desired. I believe that without them the functional width would be closer to 72" than 80" - this provides enough overlap between sections to maintain strength.
