Well I got one based on reviews. It was a few degrees at room temperature, so I did the ice and water trick. or i tried. As others may have mentioned. It turns very hard, I had to grab the dial with pliers. So of course the glass broke. I still needed a thermometer, but no longer waterproof. I could still get glass there. The frame holding the glass and the seal have already come loose. It was just a friction landing. No crimping. I finally got it to spin to 32°F. I put it on the table to return to +/- ambient temp a bit and it was over 10°F. I put it back in ice water and it only read 40°. I use similar devices for industrial purposes, so I'm pretty used to the ice water trick and how it works. It cannot be calibrated. I took stock protection. away for a meat thermometer that lost one and quickly threw it in the bin. It's not worth my time to send it back.
