These files are very good for the price. As previous reviewers have commented, these 5 and 1/2 inch files are not as fine cut as 4 inch jeweler's needle files. The teeth are regular file teeth, not the rasp type burrs you see on wax files and not the fine grains you see on diamond files.They are just coarse enough to use as finishing files for wax carving and fine enough for first cuts on copper or other soft metal, which must then be finished with a finer tool. They also work on soapstone and clog up on it no faster than anything else I've used. I wonder why they have the plastic handle covers? I hold files close to the tip which makes handles redundant, and since a plastic handle cover picks up filings I always take it off. But for less than six dollars that is no problem!See this list for other sizes and types of file.
