I have never researched a product longer, looked deeper for more information or read more reviews than researching these binoculars. In the end I settled on the Nikon name and the guarantee. After trying a few models in the store I decided on this 8 over 10x30 because I thought it was better to have more light at dusk than a magnification. I first used them the other night at a guitar concert when I was about in my 70's and they reproduced incredibly sharp and crystal clear images of the finest details like the fingers on the frets and the strings just picking up the light from the stage . Focusing is easy I have progressive lenses and wear my eyepieces in glasses as recommended and they work great - excellent. Lightweight of course. They get 4 stars instead of 5 because the front lens cap system is completely goofy and because the neck strap doesn't have quick release latches near the camera body; it would be nice if you could quickly reset the neck strap, for example at a concert. I purposely chose a 30 lens diameter to keep them small enough to fit in cargo pant pockets and they fit without a pocket or strap. Collar is ok but overkill for me; I'll look into something else and in certain cases I'll also look for a drawstring pouch instead of a case. The bag is fine and well padded, great for storage and portability, but overkill when hiking or day trips. Regarding all the technologies that Nikon advertises on its website, regarding the lens system and the associated coatings, as well as the measurement of illumination and distortion values, etc. - trust them. I've tried a couple of very expensive binoculars at or near this spec and it's a great product without having to shell out a lot of money for a little more clarity and image sharpness at the next price point. - trust them.
