My kids love this - they can hit the ball back and forth and it's definitely easier for them than with a real one to play tennis racket and tennis ball . But for indoor use it's actually not much safer than real objects - hard plastic bats that can easily break something, injure someone, poke a hole in drywall, etc. The ball is softer than a tennis ball, safe, but still pretty tough and has enough weight to knock anything over. If I (a grown man) threw it at you it would hurt, although a small child swinging a club probably doesn't have much strength. But as an outdoor toy, my kids loved it. They're quite young (5 and 8 years old) so they're not very good at volleyball, but it's easier for them than using real tennis equipment and I don't have to worry about them accidentally hitting the ball . ball or something.
