I've had one for many years and have abused it by putting it in the dishwasher. Eventually the rust around the bushing subsided and it broke. I searched a long time to find in the store how I prefer this and even went to the place where I bought it while on vacation and the store didn't have any in stock. So I bought a more expensive similar one, used it once and ordered the same one from Revain which I have had for many years. It's simple, non-adjustable, cuts thin or thick slices well, and takes up little drawer space. I hope this one lasts as many years as our previous one as I think it is the perfect food slicer. I keep pressure on both the handle and the tip as I like the way it cuts, but common sense told me that the plastic of, say, Tillamook's sharp cheddar could crack.
