Review on Metabo HPT MultiVolt Brushless NT1850DF by Josh Koa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Light and consistent. Freedom from hoses and compressor.

I am a DIY enthusiast and spend a lot of time making built in bookshelves, window and door trim and baseboards. So far I have used pneumatic nailers from Bostitch, i.e. hoses and a compressor. The Metabo HPT MultiVolt 18V MultiVolt cordless nailer appears to be cordless, which makes everything work faster and leaves less clutter on the floor, making it safer. I have a DeWalt cordless nailer that twists and kicks a lot and is heavy. The Metabo nailer doesn't have these problems and is surprisingly light. I make things really easy. The nail depth is adjusted with the rotary knob on the side of the Medabo nailer. None of the nails I hammered in needed tapping once the depth was set correctly. There's a small window in the magazine so you can see if you're running out of nails. This needs to be checked as the nail gun will continue to shoot even without nails, which is a downside. The Metabo LED lighting is good but fickle. There is a lot of light on one side of the peak and not on the other. It could have been done better but I like handling the work even if it's not the best. And I like that you don't have to pull the trigger to turn on the light. The tip is good, there is a spare part in the kit. An arrow indicates where the nail will be placed. It's not necessary when you're starting out, but it came in handy when I first picked up the tool. Yes, Metabo is more expensive than a pneumatic nail gun, but in my opinion the convenience is worth it. This is a great nailer that I would definitely recommend despite the two issues I mentioned.

Pros
  • AIR SPRING DRIVE SYSTEM: Offers performance similar to pneumatic tools
Cons
  • not reliable
