Small General Purpose Modified Sine Wave Inverter

This is a small DC to AC inverter useful for powering small AC devices from a 12V power supply during a power outage or blackout take care of. This is a good device and it gets the job done. The unit was well packaged and includes the inverter itself, two different connection cables (a 12V car cigarette lighter cable and a cable with a battery clip) and a quick start guide. To connect any cable, unscrew the red and black terminal block covers on the power switch side of the unit, slide the spade lugs over the terminal blocks, and retighten. It's not difficult at all. The device is small - about the size of a large mass-market paperback book, minus 1 inch in length. It fits easily under a car seat, but may be too heavy to stow in the glove box. While nothing prevents this, this device is clearly not intended to be permanently installed in a vehicle, it is clearly intended to be used in portable mode. This unit is a MODIFIED SINE WAVE Inverter as you would expect at this price point. It is by no means a "true sine wave" inverter. This means it's acceptable for most applications, but there are some devices that shouldn't be used with it. AC powered devices such as small coolers and compressors should not be used with this device and CPAP machines PARTICULARLY should NOT be used with this device. Things with external power supplies like laptops and phone chargers should be fine (and of course for phones you can just use the USB output ports on the output side of the device). I appreciate that this device comes with a cigarette lighter plug. Cable. However, be aware that most car cigarette lighters have a 10A or 20A fuse, some even have a very limited 5A fuse! This means if you plug it into your car's cigarette lighter and draw more than 120W (on a car with a 10A fuse) or 240W (on a car with a 20A fuse) it could cause it that the fuse will blow and the outlet will become unusable. (and of course turn off the inverter). And an important safety tip: DO NOT think that you can just put a 30A fuse in your car and make it work. You can not. Your car has a fuse because the wiring can only carry a certain load. If you put a larger fuse where it's not needed, you risk damaging the wiring or the car, and you also risk a fire from overheating. Do not do that! Instead, be aware of the potential limitations of your vehicle when running powerful applications through the cigarette lighter. If you need more power, use the battery cable clamps to connect the inverter directly to the battery. The manual correctly states that this inverter will naturally drain the battery over time when used in a car. You should only use it when the engine is running, or at least start the engine regularly during use. Car batteries average 40-60 amp hours when fully charged, which means that a car's battery at a 300W load can be discharged to zero in 2-3 hours, causing the car to stall. So think again about your current workload. Either way, this inverter is for you – it offers great quality at a great price, it's rugged but small, and it gets the job done. I definitely recommend this device for those who need this power range!
