Review on Abahub Carbon SUP Paddle: Lightweight 67" - 86" Adjustable 3-Section Carbon Fiber Oars With Carrying Bag by Stephen Cernatescu

Not for Taller Paddlers

This paddle is fine for shorter paddlers that won't be using it at/near it's maximum extension and it's my go to paddle when I take people out on my spare board, but I bought it for me as a lighter/better paddle and it just doesn't work at it's max extension. WAY too much flex, and it flexes in a concerning way - not a continuous curve across the shaft like other paddle's I've used, but a much more pronounced bend at the joint. I got this because I snapped my aluminum paddle in half after a few years of learning to pull harder and harder mixed with some metal fatigue so I may not be an average paddler at this point but I would look elsewhere if you're over 6'3" or so (I'm 6' 6") unless you're planning to paddle very casually and don't expect to ever have to go into a 15 mph or greater headwind. I wish they sold a tall length top part of the paddle as it needs more overlap to stiffen the central part of the paddle for it to be functional at the 86" length, and I would be happy for another couple inches of extension. All that said.the paddle is much lighter than the standard aluminum paddles that come with lower priced boards and I do strongly recommend this for anyone 6' or less. Also - the paddle head itself seemed perfectly sized to me - smaller than a standard introductory paddle so that you can increase your stroke rate and get more cardiovascular involvement to turn paddle boarding into a workout vs. tiring out your muscles with an oversized paddle head.

Pros
  • Easy to travel with. Not as light as I was hoping though.
Cons
  • Shaft may bend under pressure
