Review on Kamerar D Fuse Combo Medium Softbox by Monica Williams

Beautiful soft light, lightweight and portable

For the price I was expecting something flimsy which looked like a cool idea but didn't work. I was wrong. I typically use a large 24x24" Chimera softbox attached to a 600w or 1k Arri Fresnel ($500 light and $400 softbox) to achieve an incredibly similar look as what I just saw of this $50 softbox and every other $100 softbox. or less LED light. I use the GVM 580 and I have to say how impressed I am with the soft light this box gives off. The egg crate is very effective in narrowing the focus of the light, which is useful for creative interviews with lighting. This is a very small light leak on the back where the velcro attaches to the light, which isn't very noticeable and can easily be solved with a small piece of black foil. The box simply snaps into place with small magnet bars, is compact and very light on the lamphead itself and folds into a very small compact travel case. I can see myself buying another one and wearing my $400 Chimera to work less and less unless specifically asked to. The looks and softness of light from this little box are impressive, and the build quality seems to last. I can't say anything bad about it. For those who criticize the inability to tilt the lantern with this attached, most lights have both horizontal and vertical holes in the yoke for attachment to the stand. Use the side mount (like in my photos) and you can easily tilt the lantern.
