Over time, AV connections tend to oxidize, resulting in poor signal transfer and sometimes a noticeable drop in performance. The DeoxIT pen is an easy way to coat such connections with a substance that removes oxidation and restores it to its original state. An example is a very old (1974) stereo receiver. Over the years, the ports on the back have become so badly oxidized that the sound quality has been compromised. Treating the jacks on the back with a DeoxIT knob helped me get rid of decades of oxidation and the sound quality has improved significantly. I'm sure this material has countless other uses - I recommend it enthusiastically.
