Fun ham radio suitable for portable audio and video

I really like this little phone. I've been using it for a long time and it's very reliable. I've read of people having problems with the speaker disconnecting. This wasn't a problem for me, but I hooked up a $20 Cobra CB speaker at a rest stop and it connected right away and was a huge improvement in sound quality. Haven't had a chance to use it on 10m or 6m yet, I need antennas for the bands I don't have. I run the radio as a base station from a 12v power supply using rg8x coax to a VHF/UHF tram antenna about 25 feet away. I don't really understand the 6 hypermemory buttons on the front, they seem bugged. Programming is easy, there is a lot of memory. I've used it mainly on 2m, it's very popular where I live and work very well, I can get a pretty good range, about 40 miles. 10m FM requires a general license, other bands only require a technical license. So you're essentially getting a decent deal for a nice little dual-band radio that can also play a few other bands. I read that it was supposed to be Rx for aviation AM band only, but I can't find how to do it in the guide and I couldn't experiment easily. The dual receiver feature is amazing, I can switch between two different frequencies very quickly.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Slightly torn
