📻 FONGHOO TYT TH-9800D Quad Band 50W Cross-Band Mobile Transceiver: A+B Dual Band Two Way Radio with 10M/6M/2M/70CM Bands Review

This radio will NOT transmit out of band unless you program it to do so. The instructions for unlocking the radio are terrible, I downloaded the radio band opening software on 3 different computers (windows vista, windows 7 and windows 10) and the software didn't install properly on any of the computers. If you need a radio that only works on the ham radio bands, this is a great deal. If you want it to have a MARS/CAP mod, buy it elsewhere and program it.

There are no limits to equipment spending in amateur radio. I think this TYT is pretty much a replica of the Yeasu FT-9800. You can even use the same programming cable. I really like this little phone. I've been using it for a long time and it's very reliable. I've read of people having problems with the speaker disconnecting. This wasn't a problem for me, but I hooked up a $20 Cobra CB speaker at a rest stop and it connected right away and was a huge improvement in sound quality. I had 3 TYT TH-9800 radios. Two were purchased from Revain and both were returned. The first one I bought from the ham store still works great. Both Revain devices had extremely poor audio quality that could not be resolved. I have a general class license and no matter how the radios were programmed the audio always sounded like it was a few kilohertz out of frequency, pretty much the same as the sideband noise when tuned. As I said, I still have the original unit that I bought and I love it. .

Stick to the original software that comes with the purchase of a radio. Original OEM software Win XP or 7th USB driver disk. enabled, but drivers are automatically installed via the tyt software cable installed for WIN 7.
