I ordered this adapter for my wife who uses a work computer. It has USB ports but no Cat 5 Ethernet port. She needed the speed and reliability of a wired internet connection, so this device seemed to do the job. Unfortunately, because her company's computer has been "locked down" by her company's IT department, she is unable to install any software or drivers required for this adapter. Luckily, I had a similar adapter that didn't require installing drivers, so I traded my adapter in for hers and she was able to use it to set up her high-speed wired connection. I then plugged this adapter into one of the USB 3 ports on my Dell Inspiron 5520 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. My computer. Devices already connected to the Internet automatically install the appropriate driver so that the adapter can be used. This adapter offers excellent speeds, limited only by my router and gigabit network switch. Installing Windows is easy and automatic if the user has administrator access and permission to install software and drivers. For those who need a fast Ethernet connection through the USB 3 port, this adapter should work just fine as long as the computer user has the rights to install the required driver.
