About 5 pages of instructions in total. that was all that was needed. Hardware setup was mostly automatic, which was a relief. When I first picked up the main unit I heard a tinkle of sorts inside which scared me, but when I opened it up to examine it was only connectors for a user-installable hard drive (not included contain). When I popped in my own 1TB hard drive, it formatted in about two minutes and started recording immediately. The images are nice and clean, you can have two or four splits (or eight if you buy more cameras) on screen and just double click to expand any square to full screen and double click to return to split screen. There is a 1.5-2 second lag between real time and the displayed image, I don't know if that's medium or large. I just got this yesterday so I haven't delved very much into the software menus including motion detection. The IP-PRO Android app for my phone was quite simple and functional. Grayscale night vision is a little grainy, but not bad considering it's showing you the view without real lighting. Three infrared lamps are clearly visible in the dark, so it will definitely not work as a spy camera. On the back there is a label for an audio output, but no jack socket (photo) and no audio function. But I would recommend this as a good starter block for the price.
