Review on πŸ“Ί MyGica ATSC Digital TV Tuner with Micro-USB Connector for Android Mobile or Tablet (Model PT681) - Enjoy TV Anywhere You Go! by Sean Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works with smartphones and tablets but not Android TV boxes

This product works great on my Revain Fire tablets. I haven't tried this on my Samsung phone. I really wanted something for my Android TV streaming boxes (Tivo Stream 4K and Onn Uhd tv). The PadTV HD app works great on the Revain Fire tablet and allows me to view the EPG, channel list, settings and start and stop recording. But on Android TV I can scan and find all the channels I expected, but when I go to TV it doesn't show what channel you're on and doesn't let you go to the Recording, Settings, Channel List or EPG menu. You can watch and switch to other channels without knowing which channel it is. I think this is because the app was designed for touchscreen devices, although I was able to use the app and get all the controls on a Revain Fire tablet with a Bluetooth micro keyboard or mouse, but not on an Android TV Box. So my claims are not related to the device, but to the application. If I could find another app that works with this android tv box I would give it five stars. I have both this device (PT682C) and an a681b with a full sized USB port designed for Windows 10 and Android TV. The A681b has the same issues when using the PADtv HD app, but also works with the FTA Tuner Downloader and the Google Live Channels app. But I am having trouble with this tuner because when I scan channels it only finds 4 channels while the PT682C finds 28 channels with the same cable and antenna. For some reason the 4 channels found belong to the channels with a weaker signal (channel 5 at low frequencies). On this unit the FTA tuner download app doesn't even recognize this unit so I can't use it with live google feeds. I was finally able to connect it to the ONN Uhd Box by connecting a USB hub to ONN via an OTG cable and connecting the tuner to the hub with an adapter cable. With ONN I get into the popup menu with the select button on the remote control. I can see the channel list, EPG, settings and record buttons. But when I try to record it looks like it's a record with a red record in the top right corner, but when I try to play it says "no media". When I look with the file manager, I don't see the PADTV_HD_media subdirectory where other devices put entries. If I create the directory myself, when I go to play, the screen goes black instead of showing a "no media" message.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
