Large hole in the center which is easy to stretch. It would be better to leave the carpet for a while and have the customer cut it according to your machine. I use clear tape to secure the edges because my previous smaller rug came loose at the edges while the machine was quilting the larger quilt and I was sewing the rug. Supposedly rinsing the mat with water after each use will keep it from unraveling during sewing, but I did. I seal the edges with tape because I can't afford to replace it every time I use it.
