The cure for my usual problems

I replaced the 1:1 'ugly balun' (air coax choke) in the feedpoint of my broadband RF antenna with this and what a difference it made Has! I'm using an unbalanced random wire which, by the laws of physics, generates significant common mode noise when switched on. Before I hit the gas, LEDs would flash on devices that were off, and my speakers would howl when the radio was on. This was greatly reduced by incorporating a home built air wound choke and eliminated with the MFJ-915. Remember that these chokes are much more efficient at low frequencies. Theoretically they will help to some extent once you hit 6 meters, but there's a reason they're advertised as 160-10. As you move up the VHF spectrum, more and more HF flows back through the coax screen. I've read complaints about poor quality control of MFJ products but I've had several of these and haven't had the same thing. an experience. The build quality of this throttle body is solid. The device is weatherproof, has drain holes at both ends of the cylinder and the lids are epoxy filled. As always, PL259 connections must be wrapped with self-amalgamating tape (aka "coax gasket") if this unit is to be used outdoors. Inside the PVC cylinder is a short RG-213 segment clamped end to end with ferrite rings. . You can of course build this as a DIY project, but if you don't already have the components the final cost is the same.
