My USB extension was super sensitive to any movement of the cable. The USB connector plating was found to have worn down to bare metal and is making intermittent contact. This wreaked havoc with my USB headset, flash drive, and camera. I bought these metal USB connectors and soldered the cable to a new one and it worked great. No more delicate cable movements that could shut down all USB connections. These interchangeable metal connectors made the solution permanent.
