Prevents refrigerant from escaping through the high-pressure valve!
I have an old GMC pickup and the air conditioning has stopped working. I evacuated and recharged the system only to find that crappy high pressure valve (the one with the little black plastic ball at the bottom) hissed. GM says this is normal and that the cap is the main seal on these valves. Mine was leaking. I wanted to replace the valve but couldn't break the old one so I found this. Just screw in and press firmly. Voila! No more electricity!
