I'm on my way to brisk walking/jogging with little or no pain and have read that walking barefoot or at least with very little padding is a good idea. In Born to Run, I read about many different examples of how so-called "running shoes" cause more injuries than they prevent. The star track and field coach forced his team to train barefoot because Nike's new so-called "running" shoes caused injuries that didn't exist before wearing the shoes. I have a pair of Vibram 5 finger shoes that were pretty good but it hurt between my toes trying to walk in them. The point is that we were born to walk and run on our natural legs, but of course, as things are, we risk cutting ourselves if we try now. Despite this, these shoes are perfect, there are no restrictions on the foot, allowing it to lie in its natural free position. With enough protection to protect you from the elements, you will naturally start walking/running on your front foot instead of healing, leading to injuries, split shins and knee pain, among other things. I highly recommend these sneakers! I'll be buying another pair myself to make sure I'm covered if for some unfortunate reason they stop making them. Sizing is spot on, if you wear a size 11.5, size 11.5 is spot on in these shoes.
