Review on 🚿 Efficient and Versatile Bathroom Replacement: Universal Electric Compatibility by Jamar Gow

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A quick, easy and inexpensive upgrade to a 32 year old bathroom fan.

We had an old, noisy, unreliable fan in our downstairs bathroom and while looking for a replacement fan that would work without access to the attic I came across this solution. I pulled out the old fan mount (be prepared for a lot of dust - wear goggles!) and found it stamped Broan 688-H/663-H. After removing the mounting bolts and nuts I wasn't able to remove the old fan from the motor shaft, but when I started really trying, the old, fragile fan broke, allowing easier access to the motor shaft and then drawn to the fan. out. I cleaned the fan mount and ordered this item. It arrived in less than 24 hours. When I installed the new fan and motor onto the bracket, I found that the new bearings were "back to front". If you look at the picture you will see that the "ears" for the screws on the bearing carrier are on the opposite side of the fan. The old one had tabs on the side of the fan to fit holes in the motor mount. I removed the bolts, swapped the bearing mounts and reinstalled them and the tabs fit properly into the motor mount. Everything came together nice and neat, and the fan cleaned well. I put the mount back into the fan case, plugged it in, turned on the fan and it worked great! Not as quiet as the Broan/NuTone 0.3 Sone fan I installed in the master bathroom, but much better than the old one and spins much faster and more reliably.
