I love these bead mats! I can't do without them when working on jewelry projects. I do chain mail and some bead projects. I started with folded paper towels and then progressed to kitchen towels. I'm still not satisfied until I found these rugs. When working on mats, it is easier to lift the jump rings. There is enough "ledge" in the mat to get my pliers under the jump ring for a good grip. When I'm working on a project, I don't have to worry about rings jumping or beads rolling off the mat. Items do not bounce heavily when falling on the mat. The rugs are easy to roll up, so I can keep them in my craft basket when I'm ready to put a project aside. I mainly work at the kitchen table. The 12"x9" size is perfect for my powerful bright magnifying glass/lamp, a pair of pliers and some triangular bead or ring trays. I will post pictures of my workstation with the bead mat used. Updated 06/10/2013. I've been using the same 3 mats for 2 1/2 years. They look and feel like lightweight acrylic fleece. They are easy to wash. I usually wash them in the sink with dish soap, rinse them, hand wring them and lay them out to dry. I have also washed and machine dried them with good results. Wring them out by hand and lay them out to dry. I have also washed and machine dried them with good results. Wring them out by hand and lay them out to dry.
