Charcoal balls are tiny. I tried using them in one of my internal filters to remove some of the tannins from my tank but because they are so small they went right through the sponges and out the filter rods. Space in the filter is limited, so I can't put it in a fine mesh bag and slide it in the filter. I ended up having to cover the grids with filter thread to keep them from falling out, but that just means I have to change them every time compared to the sponges that came with the filter. I'm sure Seachem charcoal is better than most, but they really should make it in a coarser grit.
