red wine aeration softens the pungency of tannins in wine. The aerators in this kit add oxygen to the wine flowing through them and the wine is aerated in seconds. The tannin is smoothed and softened, and the flavor of the wine improves. I don't understand the chemistry but appreciate the quick speed of the process and the improved flavor. Contains 4 pieces, 2 aerators and 2 vacuum plugs. I've found 2 aerators useful when we have guests who prefer a different wine to mine, but I've only had one opportunity to use a vacuum stopper. In this case it worked as advertised but turned out to be more of a hassle than popping the cork back into the bottle overnight.
