Review on πŸ“š Pocket-Sized Classic Gold Sketchbook for Drawing and Mixed Media – 4"x5" Spiral Bound Artist Drawing Pad/Sketch Journal by Michelle Langley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for watercolors, bleeds on side with alcohol based markers

I really like this sketchbook. The paper is of surprisingly good quality and you can not only draw on it with pencil and pen, but much more. I've used watercolors, permanent markers, Sakura pens and markers, acrylic paints, calligraphy inks and pens, Copic markers and the paper hasn't fallen apart. As for bleeding, alcohol based markets will happen and you can paste something under the current page you are working on to prevent it from leaking onto the next page. It's also fairly durable, I had some reservations about the spiral mount, but it's survived travel and being stuffed into bags.

Pros
  • Ideal for mixed media. While perfect for pencil sketching, this album also works well with markers, inks, pastels, colored pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, calligraphy, and zentangle. Even permanent markers won't show through! (Alcohol pencils and other "wet" pencils may bleed through.) Please note that the Sutter Lane Sketchbook is not intended to replace a Bristol board, watercolor board, or drawing paper (it is a sketchbook, after all), but you will be amazed at just how versatile paper is is.
Cons
  • Only available in black
