I always plug my iPhones in into a shell. I literally drop my phone at least 2-4 times a day. But I never used a screen protector until the iPhone 12. It has become such a powerful and important device that I have dedicated myself to protecting it. So that was the first purchase and installation of a screen protector. The kit included everything you need to install. I know it sounds obvious, but without the right tools, your screen protector can end up looking like a bad DIY car tint. I actually thought it was going to be a very thin film, but it actually felt like another piece of glass, which gave me a slightly better idea of how well it would actually protect the phone. Installation takes a little patience, but they provide the tools. do it right. When it's on, you can't see/be aware that it's on. They were significantly more expensive at the AT&T store where I bought the phone, so I'm glad I went that route.
